Ellie Wyatt
A man and his horse: a study in early photographic theory through portraits of Vladimir Putin
2009, Vladimir Putin is photographed riding a horse bare-chested through the Siberian wilderness, fishing (again topless), swimming (topless), and in general conducting a series of activities in thoroughly manly fashion. 2014 he is photographed draping a blanket around China's first lady, image goes viral, Chinese censors go wild. 2015, a bizarre home-video of Putin working out and eating steak with his vice president emerges from the Kremlin.
Considering the very first photographic theory from William Henry Fox Talbot and the paintings that preceded it, London-based artist Ellie Wyatt will deliver musings on how it came to be that these images of Putin and other such photographs came into existence.
